Bad Bear Store, Barcelona - Retail Design
Location: Ciutat Vella, Barcelona
Year: 2024
Client: Bad Bear
The Bad Bear retailer expands its first European location in Barcelona, in the historic "Casa del Comte de Fonollar" in Ciutat Vella, marking a new chapter in the European retail scene. The team of Estudio Galata handled this enormous redesign, which exemplifies the difficult balance between heritage preservation and modern character.
The project faces a special design challenge: balancing a contemporary aesthetic with the centuries-old building's finely preserved architecture. The meticulous modification of areas to respect the building's historic character while satisfying the requirements of a contemporary shop experience exemplifies this dichotomy. Estudio Galata managed this contrast by incorporating elegant, contemporary fixtures and accenting important structural components, such as the original arches and columns.
The interior has a rough, industrial vibe that complements Bad Bear's brand identity while allowing the local history shine through. The architectural details and product displays are accentuated by well-placed lighting, which creates a cozy ambiance that honors the brand's European heritage while still embracing its modern energy.
This first European store is a daring move that not only creates a retail hotspot but also protects Barcelona's architectural legacy, demonstrating a dedication to fusing retail innovation with cultural preservation.
